In Spring of 2019, residents of Houston Fifth Ward and Kashmere Gardens expressed concern about possible contamination at the nearby Union Pacific Railroad site. Harris County Pollution Control Services (PCS) joined the multi-agency response focused on investigating the site and determining environmental and public health impacts. PCS commissioned private contractors to conduct focused studies and environmental monitoring in the Fifth Ward/Kashmere Gardens areas. PCS also utilized in-house resources to conduct additional air and water monitoring. Since 2019, PCS has worked closely with Harris County Commissioners Court, Harris County Attorney’s Office, and Harris County Public Health to pursue the best outcomes for the residents and the environment. The information gathered along the process has been consolidated on this site for ease of use.
